  • Catherine Helgesen

    Catherine works as a CPA in Wilmington.  She has been a volunteer at Paws Place since December 2015.  Her passion for dogs brought her to Paws Place and she delights in doing all she can to make the residents feel special.  Catherine is married and has a rescue pup – Roxy.  She enjoys yoga, reading, boating, and long walks with her family.

  • Tony Durso

    Tony is an engineer and an MBA who has retired from ExxonMobil Chemical Company.  He has been a volunteer with Paws Place since 2011.

  • Peggy Durso
    Board Member

    Peggy has worked in administrative positions at a variety of industries in her career, including financial planning, education, health services, legal and manufacturing.  Peggy has been a volunteer with Paws Place since 2008.

  • Robin Arnaud
    Board Member

    Retired REALTOR who has had at least one dog almost her entire life. Robin worked in various fields while living all across the country and is now in the one which pays in puppy kisses!

  • Denise Copeland
    Board Member

    Denise Copeland became involved with Paws Place as a volunteer dog walker in the summer of 2020.  She is a strong advocate for man’s best friend and has been a dog owner all her adult life.  Denise retired in 2019 and relocated to the NC coast after serving as the COO of Our Towns Habitat for Humanity in Cornelius, NC where she devoted her time and talents to assist those in need of affordable housing.  Denise is an avid pickleball player and hiker.  She loves being active outdoors and experiencing all that coastal life has to offer.

  • Tom Miller
    Board Member

    Tom is a retired Department of Defense Program Manager and Contracting Officer with thirty-three (33) years of Marine Corps and Army Acquisition program experience.  Tom and his wife, Elizabeth, moved to St. James in 2016.  They are both active in local charities.  Tom has volunteered at Paws Place for 4 years.  Elizabeth coordinates collection of pet food donations for the Southport Oak Island Inter-Church Food Pantry (SOIICF), which are delivered by Tom.  Tom and Elizabeth have two rescue dogs, two rescue cats, and two horses.

  • Shannon Eidsness
    Board Member

    Shannon works as a hospital pharmacist in Wilmington. She has been around dogs all her life and is eager to spend her spare time with the sweet dogs at Paws Place, where she found her rescue dog, Mickey, in 2020.
