A Few of Our Success Stories

We do the very best we can to find just the right homes for our residents. We love each and every one dearly, and want to make sure they live happy, healthy lives in their new forever homes. Here are a few of them who have found new homes, and they are thriving with their newfound affection and care.

Cassie

Our beautiful girl Cassie, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever that was found abandoned at the Oak Island's Animal Control Kennels. She was adopted into a family who already had another Chessie, and loves the breed tremendously. She's got a new, happy family and a new brother!

Rhe before

Oh, my. Our little Rhe. Found in a ditch, starving, wormy, and covered with scabies. Her little fur was so thin, you could see her skin through it. Ears covered with scabs from the scabies.

And then...

Rhe got adopted. AND, she came to see us recently. This ugly duckling turned into a beautiful princess!

Duchess

Duchess. Beautiful, sweet, and happy. She loves to play with puppies, babies and kids. We had to be VERY careful with her, to make sure she went to a family that wanted a child, not a guardian. She's in her new home now, with two people brothers.

Josie

Josie, a beautiful black Lab. She almost got adopted once, but when she was taken to the car, she freaked. We kept her, to help her with her fears, and worked with her to help her get to know the big bad world. After a lot of love and training, she went with us to a local dog benefit day at the park, and got adopted by a couple who fell totally in love with her. She's at home now, with her new sister, Pippin.

Greta before

Greta was found, at the local animal control, with her brother Hans. They were covered in scabies, and had coccidia. Hans, sadly, did not make it. Greta needed a whole year of care. The coccidia and the scabies had her immune system so weakened, she was constantly ill.

Hero before

Our magnificent Hero. Full grown, but only 62 lbs because of the abuse of his former owner. Stitches covered his body after being viciously attacked by his owner's other guard dog.

Our Hero! It's wonderful what a family, a boy and a farm can do.

Tiny little Shawn, at his foster mom's House. Dumped by an owner who didn't care anymore.

Leah before

We found Princess Leah at Animal Control, and took her straight to the doctor's. A lady there fell in love, and adopted her. Leah was returned to us about a month later, because she 'chewed.' To our dismay, we discovered Leah had been left outside, on her own, with no one to play with. She came back to the shelter, until...

.... she found a new home, with a new sister! Can you tell which is which? (Neither can we!)

Flip before

Flip? Good ole, quiet, nondescript hound dog Flip. Nothing gorgeous or outstanding about this boy ... he is just a good dog. Loves to play, but loves mostly to just be a good friend. Among some of the more beautiful or unique dogs, Flip could have gotten lost in the mire.

Bailey

Today I participated in a dog show at the Bergen County Animal Shelter. There were 54 doggies and I won three ribbons. My mommy and daddy are sooo proud of me.

Love, Bailey McDuff

PS. Regards to Fred the dog catcher.

These are just a few of the dogs we've helped to rescue and place with new forever families. Since our grand opening in August of 1999, we have placed over 565 dogs (to December 2003). We are incredibly proud of that number. The love we have for our rescues, and our commitment to their health and happiness is our ultimate mission, and we think we've accomplished that goal with hard work, care and pride. Bless them all, and best of wishes to each and every one in their new homes. We love you, each and every one.

And for those hard-to-adopt special dogs, they may already be at their forever home, at Paw's Place! But we will still keep on trying, hoping...

Please! Take a look at our dogs that we have on Petfinder.com!

And then there are the many horror stories...

Paw's Place is a "no-kill" shelter. Many times very badly injured and abused animals are dropped off at our front door or picked up on the side of the road. From our experience, we know that many of these animals can be saved, can be nursed back to health, and new forever homes can be found for them.

Sometimes it's just scabies, sometimes they might lose a foot or a leg, but always, always, if we can help them, we will!

The photos in the Horror Stories file are very graphic and not for the timid. There are several success stories and then there are a few we could not save!
