I just wanted to personally thank you all for rescuing me from that prison called "Animal Shelter" (the county pound) and bringing me back to health.
Please be assured that I have taken over as the BOSS of my new family. The Siamese cat (Sasha) is still not too happy and growls at me but I'm a big boy and it doesn't bother me. Eventually she'll come around you know how charming I can be. I have a fish tank here and like trying to catch them.
I'll sit here for hours watching them swim around and try to figure how to get them.
For exercise I chase the Min Pin up and down the hall. It gives us both well needed exercise cause both of us have gained a little weight. Mommy gives me some treats in the morning to control any tartar problem I might get. They are pretty yummy and it didn't take me long to learn to meow as soon as her feet hit the floor in the morning to get what I want. Dinner is also pretty good can't decide if I like SophistaCat Supreme Sliced Duck with Wild Rice or the Poached Trout Dinner better but mom sure knows that as soon as she gets home she best be getting my dish ready.
Of course I have to "give a little" too. Dad clipped my nails and I wasn't too happy about that but I just went along with it. Anything to make him happy. He loves me so much that I just have to give in every once in awhile.
The Siamese doesn't mind sharing space on the nice big, warm bed with feather pillows. We sleep pretty good together me, mom, dad, Sasha, and Mini-Me (the dog). They know not to interfere with MY SPACE cause I'm a big boy and like to stretch out. They have other dogs too and one more cat but they don't pay me any attention. I think they knew I was the boss as soon as I came into the house. Of yeah, they have a Love Bird too (boy can I terrorize it).
Well I just wanted to let you know that everything was going fine with me. Not sneezing too much any more, put on a pound or two, like getting brushed, petted and told what a good boy I am. Eating good, got a clean litter box, friends to play with and a mom and dad who love me. Thank you for taking care of me and getting me this new family. Forever yours, Junior
Letters to Paw's Place
Here are some of the letters from contributors, forever families, and others.
We thought you might like to read some of the mail we receive every day.
Sometimes our adoptees even write to us and include pictures of their new home!
Dear Jim and Nancy: Pat and I want to thank you for the wonderful blessing you have done in Brunswick County to help the precious animals. It has been our dream that one day we would have a place other than the dog pound. May God Bless you, Any way we can help let us know!
Love to bothPat & Alma T.
Dear Jim and Nancy, I just finished reading an article in the weekly State Port Pilot about your efforts to establish a new animal shelter in our area. When my wife and I moved to Southport from the Northeast in 1997 we were shocked and upset with the number of stray dogs we would see walking (or dead) along roadsides all over the area. I have been donating to ASPCA, HSUS and the WWF for years now and will happily add Paws Place Shelter to that list. Please keep us, and all concerned animal lovers in the area, apprised of your ongoing progress and needs. An initial contribution of $100.00 is enclosed. Very Truly Yours, Bob F.
Dear Nancy and Jim - I just want to thank you again for what you have done and are continuing to do for Katie & Marsh, "The Brats" - We think it's wonderful what you are doing for all of the animals. We are so comfortable with our Beloved "Brats" at Paw's Place - We will try to help in our small way -
It was good to meet Jim & I do hope he and Richard can do some fishing. I know Richard would enjoy getting out and Jim would be safe company - I will get to work on trying to find out about a cheaper way to purchase food - can't make any promises, but I'll try - Hope we can come visit soon and give a scratch and get a kiss - Thank you again - Our Best To You BothWinnie and Richard W.
Dear Friends, It is a pleasure to send you the enclosed donation for $75.00 to be used in your caring for the lovely animals. I was visiting my brother Tom last week and I heard about your great endeavor and I was very impressed as I am a great animal lover - have quite a few myself. Wishing you the very best for the coming holiday season. Thank you for caring. Sincerely Lois T., Dumont, NJ
Nancy, Max seems to be adjusting quite well to his new home. He has made friends with our 8 year old black lab (at first Kodi growled whenever Max walked by - but after several weeks, one day suddenly they just started to play together - like someone had flipped a switch?) We walk (run) the beach here 2x day & he's quite fast on those long skinny legs! Thank you for all you're doing at your facility. I know it's a real labor of love. Linda H.
Dear Nancy, Please accept this donation for Paw's Place in memory of our daughter's (Laurin C.) beloved cats Tasha and KitKat. We wish you much success with this most worthy project and look forward to helping with whatever we're able to do. Martha H.
Dear Nancy and Jim, I don't know if you remember or not but before Hurricane Floyd hit, someone dumped a friendly little puppy at our office in Shallotte. I asked everyone around - nobody knew this friendly little puppy. I called Mr. Ray Z, a fellow animal lover, and he arranged to have our friendly little puppy (we named him Mr. Floyd) admitted to Paw's Place. We put pictures of Mr. Floyd all over the office and mentioned him to every client that came in. A few days ago we got a wonderful surprise. Mr. Floyd and his new family came by to say hello. He looks so great... I want to say thank you for being there for Mr. Floyd and all the other dogs that need a friendly place to stay while waiting for a family to come and adopt them. Sincerely, Linda F.
Dear Paws Place, Thank you for the wonderful job you're doing!
Very Truly, Marlene & Charles B. & "Smokie, Patches, Cat-2 and Squeaky"
Nancy - I've been wanting to do this for a while but since I put my dear Thumper down last week (she was 16), I am newly inspired. We would like to sponsor a kennel with a plaque to read "In Memory of Thumper "Biscuit" (Lastname)" I really admire what you are doing & best wishes. I run 2 non-profits and know how hard it is. Call me if you have a question. Thanks. Donna Ray M.
Dear Nancy, Jane & I enjoyed visiting you on Sunday and we are delighted that you have taken this project to the present status. We are pleased to enclose a check for $500.00 & we are looking forward to visiting you in the near future. Kindest Regards, Grover C.
Dear Nancy, Thank you for caring about the many homeless dogs in our area. You have given so many of them a chance to have a good life. We are proud to be able to work with you. We wish you the very best this holiday and in the new year ahead. Fondly, Betsy & Brad K.
Dear Nancy, Thank you for doing all that you're doing for our furry friends. Please use this (enclosed) for whatever you need it for. I wish I could do more. Bethe & Scott K.
Dear Nancy & Jim, Blessings on your work! If possible, memorial to "Harry - a most loving companion, Diane and Tim (Lastname)" Merry Christmas Maybe we'll visit in the new year.
Diane B.
Dear Jim & Nancy - We're so proud of you for all you're doing! Hope this helps a little... Keep up the good work! Fran & Ron T., Bloomfield Village, MI
Enclosed is a picture of Tilly "roughing it" with her new sister Tori! Thanks so much for Tilly, she's wonderful!
Nancy! You are right - Chili is the sweetest most gentle dog. She is wonderful and everyone she meets loves her instantly. My vet was also very impressed with how healthy she is. She decided on being a house dog and loves my bed or her new bed. She & Brandy have to sleep touching. The two of them play like two kids! They sometimes play takeaway, but never "fuss" over toys, chews, etc. I make sure she has lots of chew toys & she has not chewed up anything she should not or had any accidents. She is not yet comfortable with riding but getting better - leash training and other training is going great! I am so happy with her and I think she is with us. Just to see her running & playing is a joy. June S.
Nancy, I just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know how Wellby is doing. Since I adopted him on December 7th, he has been great. He has mastered taking walks on a leash, sitting and laying. We are still working on the staying command but it will come with time. The housetraining went great - only 2 accidents and luckily those were at my brother's house. He had his first experience with the beach yesterday - he is definitely a swimmer. By the way, I did change his name to Hogan. I have also included a copy of his recent vet appointment. He was neutered and had his dewclaws removed. He has recovered completely and is growing like crazy. I have included a picture of him. This was taken about 1 week ago. I hope all is well at Paw's Place. Let me know how the schedule works for volunteering. I would be interested in helping out at the kennel or with the adoption process on the weekends. Thanks for the nice Christmas letter. Kevin C.
Dear Nancy, Wanted to let you know things are now going well with Sparky. Put a fence halfway down dog house with Spark on one side and Sam & Duke on the other side. Their dog doors open into different areas. During the day I sometimes put them together & they seem to play together great. They just had trouble sleeping together. Spark is a wonderfully natured dog. I have really enjoyed him being with us. I think both of us enjoy running errands together. He sits in the back seat - happy as a clam. Thank you! Kelly
Hi Nancy & Kathy, These very cold days and nights have made me think of the dogs and cats of Paw's Place - especially while my two kitties and I are curled up on the sofa by our warm fireplace. The work you do is marveled at and appreciated. We're thinking of you and your special wards. Take care and stay in touch. Fran
Please find my contribution to your great establishment!! I have just found out about what you do for the animals, and I think you are very special people. I look forward to assisting in the future.
Sincerely, Tanya R.
Thank you - from Pre-School Play Room, Oak Island
These two photos were attached to a very nice hand-made card signed by Hannah, Addison, Nicky, John, Eugene, Josha, Kaitlyn, Matt, Mary (and several others we couldn't read)
Email to Nancy: Dear Nancy, Thank you for keeping us up to date with the latest news on Lucky and Hope. I thank God for people like you and the other people that work to save the lives of "thrown away" dogs and cats daily. We can't believe the difference in Hope. She is a sight to behold. Thank you again.God Bless you and your workers. Shirley and Marshall T.
Jim & Nancy, Thought you might enjoy seeing Bonnie Sue, aka Sweet Pea, modeling her new sweater from Santa. Dean and I have relocated to Fayetteville. Hope all is well, and the dogs. I've enclosed some money to help you continue the wonderful work you do. We get so much pleasure from having Bonnie Sue part of our family. Keep up the Great Work! Ken D.
Dear Nancy & Paws: Maggie is the sweetest dog on this Earth! She loves her new beautiful home. I try to come home mid-day for her, but even if I don't, she has not had one accident. She is so patient with our pup Tara. And she puts up with a lot from her. She has her first Vet appt. - in time for her heart worm preventative. She goes with me almost every weekend to the beach at Emerald Isle, she has a great life. She is the best companion I could dream of. Thank you all. K.
Here is a picture of Munro (aka John Walsh, lab), who we adopted from you in June, with his sister Sable. He is doing very well. I have also enclosed the Purina weight circles that I have been saving. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
Brian & Melissa D.
Dear Nancy & All Paw's Place Volunteers, I just wanted to write and thank all of you for taking such good care of me while I was there. My new home is so great. I have a doggie door I can go in and out whenever I want. A big backyard to play in and lots of lamb & rice dog food that I really love! My new mom takes real good care of me. She takes me riding and lets me sleep on the couch too! She also wanted to give you some money to help feed all my friends that are still there. And I hope it helps some. Thanks to all of you again. Levi (formerly Bert the Basset)
PS. She also changed my name to Levi - she didn't like Bert to much!
To My Guardian Angel Nancy, Thank You!, Love Madeline
PS. Here I am with my new socks!
Hi, Just to let you know that Shawn is adjusting brilliantly. He already has us trained and is ruling the roost! He is such a loveable little dog. Gives us lots of kisses. Needless to say we are veryvery happy to have him in our home. Our experience with your organization has been wonderful and we are spreading the word. Thanks again and tell Betty & Anne I will get some pictures out shortly.
Sincerely, Vivienne & Harold H.
I just thought you'd like to see me in my new home. This picture was taken the first day I arrived, so you can see I make myself right at home. I've had all my heart worm treatments now. They weren't fun, but Mom & Dad took good care of me and I'm all well now. Mom & Dad wanted me to send this check to you so you can help other dogs like me. They really appreciate how much you do for us guys! Dad says I'm a "regal beagle." Mom can't seem to get enough of my kisses & cuddles. I really lucked out. They were used to beagles so my howling at things only brings a smile to their faces. Any my inquisitiveness into their drawers, closets, etc. doesn't get me into trouble. They just laugh at me. I have my own toy box in the family room. Mom is trying to teach me to put my toys back into the box when I'm done playing. So far, I just get them out & leave them all over the house. We go to waterfront park every day as my Dad keeps the dishpan down there at the fountain clean & filled with clean water for animals & gulls. I love car rides especially if they go to the bank! That little drawer that comes out to the car window always has a biscuit in it for me. I was afraid when I first arrived here. I didn't trust Mom & Dad. I was shy & quiet. Now I realize how much they love me & will never leave or hurt me. The three of us spend lots of hours together just cuddling or sitting on the front porch swing. There is a cat that lives down the street that walks around our yard that I howl at. Keeps my lungs in shape! Just thought you'd like to know how lucky I was & happy I am. Mom & Dad said to tell you thanks. The encourage all their friends to consider getting a dog from you. If you're ever in Southport & see me with my Dad at the waterfront, be sure to toot your horn! I'll smile at you and wag my tail.

Nancy, We are so glad Paw's Place is still doing good! You guys are a tremendous blessing to the area and the animals. We love what you do!
To Nancy, We thank you for our Miss Molly, formerly Velvet, she's a great delight, I'm sure she will be a wonderful companion. Thanks for the good work you are doing and Merry Christmas. Betty S.
We adopted Shawn from your organization two years ago this coming January. He continues to be the love of our life!! Enclosed is a donation. Feel free to use it as you see fit for all the wonderful work you and your volunteers do. Harold & Vivienne H. and "Shawn"
Nancy - We continue to marvel at the terrific job you do with the shelter... and your dedication to both the animals and the concept. Happy Holidays to you and your "charges." Marge & Gere D.
Dear Paw's Place Volunteers: Please accept this gift and use it to better your program. We hope you all have a joyous holiday and wish you the best in 2004. Sincerely, Alison & Joda B.
Dear Paws Place, Sophie and I like to send you this donation in honor of the 3 fabulous years we have had together. I adopted her 3 years ago from Paws Place and am forever grateful to you for saving her and socializing her to be the best dog ever! We saw the article about Lovey in Paw Prints and would like to help with his surgery. Sophie had $200 worth of knee surgery shortly after I adopted her, so we know about worrying about vet bills! If Lovey's already had surgery - I know there are many others who could use it! Thanks again for all you do! Kim, Ray & Sophie
Dear Nancy, Happy Holidays! I was adopted November 2002 by a family. My name was Moses (Ceasar now) and I am a black lab. I love my new family - they give lots of love! I even have a brother, who is a kitty who I try to kiss and lick all the time. My mom just had a baby and I am very protective of him! I just wanted to thank you so much for saving me. You are a wonderful lady to do what you do! I just wanted to tell you how much I am loved and how happy I am. Thank you for helping me. Love Ceasar (Moses)
Paw's Place: Thought you might get a kick out of the enclosed snap shot. Marty is a very unique dog. Loves other dogs & cats and adults and children. A great watchdog, loveable companion, still very frisky, but I would not want him any other way. Loves to ride in the car. Loves to walk. Loves to play. We are truly blessed and we thank you again and again. PS. Please send a list of things you need. May I drop it off at Companion? Fondly Marian C.
